Fever Ray cover of Peter Gabriel's 'Mercy Street'

review of this track.. i must say i agree with a lot of what is said in the review above, although having heard the original track first i understand why fever ray created a more upbeat version although i think the stripped down version fits the track better. fever ray has covered a track with similar elements to her own music, double voice harmonising and tribal beats create similar elements in their music and because of this it is a strange cover to choose as its difficult to alter the song. i don't think this is as strong as her other tracks as it lacks that dark, chilling and hypnotic feel but its still undoubtedly a great tribute to one of her influences and she still manages to do it justice! peter gabriels version is already so very chilling and makes the subject matter extremely real and raw, now knowing the story behind this song i can appreciate it more and understand why fever ray would want to cover it ...

What Karin had to say: "We made it more intense and faster to fit our eccentric percussionists and energetic live musicians. It is a monotone track but we worked with the dynamics trying to make it sparkle..."
